WHAT IT IS

What Is Final Cleaning?

Final cleaning (also called post-punch clean, handover clean, or turnover clean) is the comprehensive, white-glove standard clean performed after trade punch items are resolved and before building turnover.

This is the heavyweight of construction cleanings. It removes all remaining fine dust, smudges, paint splatter, and residues, ensuring every surface, fixture, and window is fully polished, sanitized, and move-in ready for owners, tenants, and facility inspectors.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why Is Final Cleaning Done After Punch Walk?

Subcontractors completing punch-list repairs generate fresh drywall dust, paint splatter, caulking residue, and heavy foot traffic. Performing the final clean only after all punch items are resolved guarantees a pristine, spotless finish.

This eliminates rework and ensures the facility is in 100% white-glove condition for the owner walkthrough and turnover.

01

Zero Trade Dust

All touch-ups, patch repairs, and trade work are 100% finished, ensuring no new dust settles on cleaned surfaces.

02

Pass Owner Walkthrough

Delivers the white-glove, streak-free standard required by building owners, architects, and facility directors.

03

Move-In Ready Standard

From polished floors to sanitized restrooms and crystal-clear glass, the space is immediately ready for turnover.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

What Final Cleaning Is Not

Final cleaning delivers a move-in-ready, spotless finish, but it does not replace trade craftsmanship or exterior site work. Here is what stays outside the final cleaning scope.

Not Trade Defect Corrections

Final cleaning does not include painting touch-ups, drywall repairs, grout hazing requiring trade acid wash, or hardware adjustments. These remain with the respective trades.

Not Exterior Site Grounds

High-pressure washing of parking lots, exterior building facades, curtainwalls, or landscape detailing is not included unless specifically contracted.

FINAL VS. ROUGH

Final Cleaning vs. Rough Cleaning

Both are important. Here’s how they differ:

Rough Cleaning

BEFORE PUNCH WALK

Removes construction debris

Clears out trash, packaging, and residue from the site.

Makes work inspectable

Lets the GC, superintendent, and design team see the finished work clearly.

Broom-clean to lightly detailed

Leaves the space clean, walkable, and ready for punch.

Focuses on bulk cleaning

Targets dust, dirt, and construction-related mess (does not include white-glove polish).

Final Cleaning

AFTER PUNCH CORRECTIONS

Prepares for turnover

Creates a move-in ready space for the owner or occupant.

Includes detailed cleaning

Focuses on a high standard, including white-glove polish and detail work.

Cleans after trade corrections

Addresses areas that were reworked after punch items.

Covers all surfaces

Deep cleans floors, glass, fixtures, cabinets, restrooms, and more.
